Color Therapy is a recognized healing modality within the metaphysical spectrum in the modern age. Colour therapy is the use of colours for healing and mood stabilizing. By understanding the meanings of colour, we can better understand ourselves and those around us. From my perspective – colours have meanings to everyone, and basically within the tarot the colours carry symbology. If for example your eyes are drawn to a particular colour on the card, then this is a method of communication – this is how your own guidance is getting your attention that an “ area” needs to be voiced or addressed. For example – my understanding of the colours relates to my understanding of the charkras. For each person this appears to be different. I have conducted a lot of research into colours and chakras and concluded that there is a consistency in “ themes’.. I feel that there is an inherent truth to certain teachings, but then there is an individual truth that is more personal. Find the meanings of the colours for yourself and what they symbolize to YOU, and this then becomes another form of communication between you and your own guides when it comes to receiving messages. The following colour explanation is purely a tool or key, on a very simple and introductory level. If you feel that you would like to gain greater insight into the colours and their meanings – there is a lot of information available online.
Colours can also indicate areas of health within the body, dependent on which chakra the colour is associated to.
RED
Is the colour of the base chakra, (found in the groin). This chakra rules our fight or flight mechanisms, and our survival instincts. When we are having issues with “RED”, we may possibly be a victim of circumstances and finding it difficult to survive – with physical challenges that might be a bullying partner, or an inability to support ourselves financially (for example). The colour red in the upright position suggests an ability to control ourselves, and conduct ourselves within our physical environement and look after our basic “ base” needs. Interestingly – an imbalance within the red chakra can also be exhibited by anal fetishes.
If I were to see a lot of red in a card then I would discern if the colour relates to a bullying or victimization, or merely to the manifesting abilities of physical abundance, or manifesting abilities in general. (abundance is not necessarily restricted to financial but also can be directed to manifestation of emotional, and mental goals as well).
ORANGE
Orange relates to the sacral chakra which is found in the lower abdomen area between the navel chakra and the base chakra and is the centre of our creativity/reactivity. It is where we are given the energy for either reacting or creating, and this can be related to external stimuli or our own innate ability to be artistic or creative. Creativity is not restricted to physical or artistic endeavours – it can also be related to our levels of idealism and the desire to create something such as a project, based on logic. We visualize an idea or concept in our mind, and then we translate that vision to our centre of creativity to activate it and bring it to the physical level. As an example if I were to see orange in a reading and the card were reversed I would read it as “ I see that there is a lot of emotion surrounding you and the cards are indicating that you would do well to channel that energy into creating something of beauty in your physical existence in whatever way you feel drawn to demonstrate it. As you focus your creativity you will find that your emotional energies will stabilize and you will gain a greater level of calm and peace in your life with less emotive reactiveness (bearing in mind that when we are being reactive – it can be demonstrated often in an angry format and also tearfully). ON a healing perspective – I also associate the colour orange with fear, so I would follow my own inner guidance as to whether the orange refers to arts, anger, fear etc.. dependent on what other cards surround the card I am seeing orange in.
YELLOW
Yellow relates to the solar plexus charka which is in the navel area. I interpret it as beign in relation to trust, hope and faith issues – in a reversed card I interpret it as suggestive of feeling betrayed. It is also a centre of personal power – of harnessing our inner strength, and shifting beyond perceived betrayals.. it’s a colour of action and activity and moving forward. When is see a lot of yellow in a card, I know that the person is addressing personal strength issues, either feeling strong or feeling weak and disempowered. I see it as a colour of courage and hope. (and you don’t develop those qualities unless you have had a level of fear and suffering – so the card colour speaks volumes about a persons attitude toward their personal growth and past.
PINK
Pink is one of the colours of the heart charka. The colour pink speaks to me of self confidence, self esteem, and unconditional love to self- the acceptance of self in all its aspects – the good, bad and ugly. When a person is dealing with a lot of “pink”.. to me they are at least temporarily dealing with rocked confidence and self esteem. They may have always had low self esteem – been too hard on themselves and taking on the problems and responsibilities of the world with comments like “I’m not good enough – if I only I was such and such”.. or “I hate the way I/my”.. where once they have shifted past the need for pink, they are more about “well .. I’m not perfect but I AM real- and I am what I am is what I am.. working towards my personal perfection, but at the moment I am a perfect imperfection, a soul and human being in progress, and I’m comfortable and happy with who I am and also my progress.. in fact I like me – and I would be happy to have a friend like me!”.. Pink speaks to me of the development of these qualities and if a card were reversed with lots of pinks.. I would kknow that afor them its an ongoing battle of releasing harsh self judgments, and releasing negative self criticism.
GREEN
Green (emerald), is the other colour of the heart chakra, and means pretty well the same as the Pink, with the exception – pink speaks of self, where green speaks of others.. pink to me speaks of unconditional love for self, where green talks of being forgiving to other people, and loving them unconditionally.. in clarification – unconditional love doesn’t mean we need to martyr ourselves to the emotional needs of other people, but it does mean that we accept them for who they are, and respect their individuality and remain aware of the Namaste or God spark that is centred within them. We also acknowledge that every one is more than what is on the superficial, and what people expose to the world is not always the truth of who they are, but dependant on where they are in their own path of life or soul progression, we may or may not be comfortable to be around them or interact with them – but we refrain from judging them as inadequate.. we accept that they are on their path and continuing to evolve, and that it is okay for us to be different.. if we all walked the same parth life would be very dull indeed.. in brief it would be fair to say that green helps us to respect our differences and go peacefully upon our journey, without getting all caught up emotionally and it also assists us to release expectations we may have on people.. we let go of expectation and shift into the acceptance of others. If I saw in a reading that green was every where and a little bit of pink, I would have to question if the person was being a bit of a martyr and self sacrificing their own happiness for the sake of others.
Lavender
Lavender is associated to the crown chakra and our centre of spiritual wisdom.. knowledge and understanding. It is also a colour of protection by divine forces. Wisdom is the accumuliation of knowledge in a way that we can understand it and apply it in our lives, so I would know that the person that I am reading for is deeply connected to their “divine source”.. if it is too predominant ina reading.. I would question if the person is basically “imbalanced in their energies”.. and living too much in the realm of the stars and ignoring the energy of the earth, (grounding).. it can also indicate a lack of balance in masculine /feminine energies, and this can manifest itself in our life through when we are either all money and no love or all love and no money.
Turquoise
Turquoise is the colour of the throat chakra, and refers to communication and peace and nurturing. It is a feminine colour associated with nurturing and Mothering. It is also associated with protection but more the protection of a mother lion with her cubs, where she is watchful, and keeps them safe from elements, and it would be in extreme circumstances that the mother would become aggressive. The mother energy is about peace and love, if she was truly endangered she would call on the masculine energy. This colour is reflected in portrayals of Mother Mary in art, where her robes are a light blue. This colour also is associated with the higher heart chakra.. which is why it is a blending of green and blue.. it unites the colour of the heart chakras unconditional love and acceptance of others, with a peaceful communication and verbal expression.
Sapphire
The colour of the Masculine energy of protection, and air/logic. Also associated with Divine Source. If I were to see Sapphire in a card reading I would know that the person is working at a very high level of consciousness, and very protective and loving.. clear consciousness comes to mind.. purity too. Some people feel that white encompasses everything.. which it does, but at the same time – Sapphire is a very powerful and strong masculine colour, that brings a feeling of security, safety and unconditional love and protection with it. This coloru is also associated with Archangel Michael.
White
White in anyones book reflects purity, and contains all the colours of the rainbow within it. When I see white in a reading then I know that this speaks of purity of intent.. of inherent and unconditional love, and most likely humility, healing and gentleness.
Gold
The colour of the higher beings – and angelic realm. It is also represented in artworks of Saints etc, with the “halo”.. the golden glow.. whicn is suggestive and indicative of a very raised spiritual vibration, increased knowledge, awareness and understanding and a desire to be of service to mankind and the ever expanding pool of information.. for the greater good.. the colour gold also can speak of karmic experiences or those that are part of our divine plan. When I have had dreams where there were messages of a deep nature from the other side for my own personal greater good.. the messages were surrounded in a beautiful golden colour ,to denote the importance of the message for me and to me. If I saw it in a reading – I would know that this persons guides/angels were working very hard to develop a conscious relationship with the seeker.
Black
Can indicate that a person has been in a “dark space”.. but often refers more to a night time and restful state of recuperation. It can represent greif, but also and more positively- it can mean freedom – and a desire to free self from limiting beahviours, thoughts and patterns.. a colour in some respects of liberation.
Apricot
Speaks to me of joyousness, and having fun, if the card is reversed it can indicate immaturity, but when upright can refer to having fun with the inner child – letting the child play so to speak in nice ways. Reversed it might indicate a childish temper tantrum or a person that represses their desire to have fun and go play, and instead focuses on being all “grown up and mature”, at the cost of joy and laughter.. they probably need to loosen up and learn to relax and have fun.
