Many products on the market are labelled as ‘Flower Amethyst ’, from carved amethyst to amethyst clusters loosely shaped like a flower. However, genuine Flower Amethyst is extremely rare and consequently very expensive. More recently, to maximise their profits, some people have been slicing these exquisite natural crystal formations and, in the process, compromising the metaphysical attributes of the flower amethyst. True Flower Amethyst is now marketed as Brazilian flower amethyst and is sourced primarily from Rio Grande do Sol and Minas Gerais. The flowers are delicate and fragile, and unlike other quartz points, they grow straight and radiate in a fan shape or in petal-like clusters. They form in caves on bumpy or curved surfaces inside narrow rock voids, shaped by mineral-rich water dripping down over the surfaces. The flower centres are usually bluish or grey chalcedony, inside the purple quartz petals, which are then surrounded by clearer or white outer petals. They get their purple colouring from microscopic traces of iron within the lattice. Over time, these flowers can develop from the paler lavender and pinkish tones to deeper violet and purple petals.

Metaphysical Attributes
Metaphysically, the Brazilian Amethyst flower carries the attributes of not only Amethyst but also of clear and white quartz (if the flower has white petals). Clear quartz amplifies Amethyst's Master Healing attributes. At the same time, each petal is a ‘single termination point’ radiating outward from the purple/bluish or violet flower pistil, making Flower Amethyst a very high-vibration Master Healer, which is why metaphysicians seek it. Metaphysicians who use Flower Amethyst for pain relief usually place the crystal over the Heart Chakra, focusing the energy intent to radiate to the part of the body experiencing pain. It is often used with a double-terminated Herkimer Diamond, held with one end pointing down in the centre of the Crown Chakra to lock into the ‘heart chakra’ for directed, focused energy healing. To understand what your Flower Amethyst is for and how to use it, check the attributes of Amethyst, Clear Quartz, and Iron (although the Iron attributes will be minimal, they are also amplified by the Clear Quartz petals). You can also place it in the environment; wearing an Amethyst flower is impractical because, in its natural state, it is too fragile and easily damaged, although you can find some ‘slices’ of amethyst flower on the market that will carry latent energy. It's better to place the crystal as a cluster) in your bedroom or meditation room, or even in the living space; however, it can gather dust if it isn't protected.

Crystal Care
While Quartz typically has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs Scale, the Amethyst flower is a fragile, delicate cluster of usually very small points. The points can easily fall off; the tiny petal tips can also have their points broken off, so Flower Amethyst needs to be handled with care and stored properly when not in use. It is not suitable for water immersion, which can cause the points to fall off the main structure; the crystal's intricacy makes it difficult to dry properly (air/hair dryers may work), but avoid heat exposure. Use an aerosol air duster to blow any dust particles off and keep the points vibrant. While it might be tempting to place your amethyst flower on a windowsill, in Australia the bright sun will damage the crystals, leading to colour fading. Use your discretion when recharging in moonlight and filtered sunlight. Leaving it out overnight may expose your specimen to dew, condensation, and dust. When not in use, keep it separate from other crystals that might damage the delicate points. Clearing and cleansing with incense and other practices may be beneficial (though you may decide it doesn’t need clearing because the amethyst content acts as a purifier).
