Actinolite is a crystal that has derived its name from the Greek word meaning ray or beam because it has a fibrous nature. Previously, actinolite was called “uralite”. The fibrous forms of actinolite are also known as asbestos, which is toxic to humans. However, some forms of actinolite can be used as gemstones - nephrite, a type of jade, and jadeite, which can also be used as jewellery. There is another form of actinolite, chatoyant and known as cat's-eye. It is transparent (and very rare) and usually faceted. The Cats-eye or translucent actinolite is mainly found in Taiwan and Canada, although it may be found in Madagascar, Tanzania, and the US. Transparent actinolite is highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity and can be very expensive. Actinolite often forms as long blades or has a needle-like structure and is usually a dark green colour, but can also be white, yellow, grey, or black.

From a metaphysical perspective, Actinolite is a highly spiritual crystal that supports connection to your Higher Self and Higher Realms through the heart chakra. the colour of your Actinolite will reflect the priorities of support of your crystal for instance the black and gray actinolite will focus on the earth connections and attributes such as Past life and access to Ancestral wisdom, the Green will include a priority to the Nature Kingdom and Heart channelling, whiel the Yellow refers to a centering between Higher and Gaia energies, white focusing on Puritification and protection.

Crystal Care
Actinolite is a fibrous mineral that can contain asbestos, so it should be handled with care to keep particles from getting into the air. Polished pieces are usually safe, but they still need gentle handling and protection from damage. Only buy unpolished actinolite if you are trained or make jewelry. To keep polished actinolite ornaments safe, display them in a case to protect them from dust and the environment. If they get dusty, you can use canned air or rinse them with water. For jewelry, use warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush to clean, then rinse and dry. Keep ornaments away from children and pets. If you want to recharge them for metaphysical purposes, place them on a selenite brick, on incense, or under the full moon.
