Crazy Lace Agate is also known as “Mexican Lace Agate,” “Laughter Stone,” and “Happy Lace.” It's a banded chalcedony and part of the Quartz family. Typically, it is found in colours of white, grey, cream, tan, red, pink, yellow, and brown,and it has a lacy, circular type of banding. The primary colours of the Crazy Lace agate are influenced by the environment in which they form. For example, those that have formed in iron-rich areas (such as the Pilbara in Australia) tend to have more reddish tones (and the tones can be quite deep). Generally speaking, Crazy Lace agates are not rare and are fairly common, although the more intricate the patterns, and the less common the colour tones and banding, the more desirable the specimens become to both collectors and metaphysicians. They can be translucent to opaque and are found primarily in deposits in Mexico (in the state of Chihuahua), the USA, and, in smaller quantities, other parts of the world, including Western Australia. Mexican specimens tend to produce more intricate lacing, while Western Australian specimens have lacing, but their value comes from the vibrancy of the colour tones. They are found in the Pilbara region near Newman and in the Fortescue River Valley, between the Hamersley and Chichester Ranges.

Crazy Lace Agate is considered a happy crystal that brings joy to the wearers and is often associated with celebrations, dancing and happy gatherings. The circular nature of the lacing reflects cycles, including the wheel of life (what goes up must come down and vice versa) and the eternal cycle of life. It is recommended for people who are feeling stagnant or ‘down’ as it helps to remind and promote thoughts and beliefs that through the passage of time and endurance, all difficulties will be surmounted. The shades and patterning will influence the vibration of the crystals - for example, more reds, browns and blacks resonate with the Earth energies (anchoring, grounding and connection to Mother Earth and the Ancestors). Crystal Care
Crazy Lace Agate is fairly durable, with a hardness of 6.5-7, and is suitable for carving. It can withstand most treatments, including water immersion, and is not believed to contain toxic minerals. As with most crystals, if your agate gets dusty or grimy, you can usually safely wash it with tepid water and an organic cleaner, then dry it with a soft cloth. Prolonged exposure to water may destabilise the stone's integrity. You would need to ensure that you don’t place your polished crystals against ‘rough’ or ‘raw’ crystals to protect them from scratching. As with most coloured crystals, they can fade when exposed to sustained sunlight, so, particularly in countries such as Australia, you would restrict their time outdoors or place them in an area with filtered sunlight. Selenite is a great option for clearing and recharging your crystals - especially if you have a charging plate or selenite log.
Suitable alternatives for clearing and charging your flower agate include smudging with sage, cedar, juniper or palo santo (or other cleansing and purifying herbs and aromatherapy oils), sound healing (with tuning forks, crystal or Tibetan bowls and bells, sound drumming), energy healing, or placing it on another crystal with clearing and cleansing attributes, such as a selenite charging plate. Earthing by placing it outside in a sheltered part of the garden is also a suitable method of cleansing and recharging; a good strategy could be to place it in a ceramic potted plant and expose it to moonlight or filtered sunlight for a few hours or overnight for ‘gentle cleansing’. Earthing allows the stone energy to reconnect with the natural energy of “Mother Earth’ and reinvigorate and revitalise crystals that have become ‘drained’. Other methods for cleansing, clearing, and charging your crystals can include visualisation (seeing a bright, pure white light surrounding the crystal and clearing it of any negative energies to restore it to its natural energetic state) or using healing modalities such as reiki to cleanse and recharge it.
