Money Agate is a type of agate found in Indonesia and China. Indonesian money agate is often called “Indonesian Bloodstone’ although they are geologically different. Traditional Blood Stone is dark green with red specks, whereas the Indonesian Money Agate features plumes and clear chalcedony. Chinese Money Agate tends to have more rustic, earthy colours, and both types of Money Agate have plumes and swirls that often form coin shapes within them. The colours of Money Agate are the suspended mineral inclusions. The image here is of Chinese Money Agate, which is particularly pretty. Technically speaking, while Money Agate is a trade term and is referred to as an agate, it meets the definition of a mix between agate and brecciated Jasper.

Metaphysical Attributes
Metaphysically, crystals and their benefits are related to the colours and chakras (and the way in which the crystal forms - for instance, crystals that form in volcanic cavities will carry fire elements, sometimes air and sometimes water). The colours also influence the healing benefits, and Chinese Money Agate carries particularly earthy brownish-red colours, along with creams, and sometimes even chocolate-almost-black colouring. This makes it the perfect grounding crystal and the manifestation of base survival needs. Whoever named the crystal “Money Agate’ made a good choice, and not just based on the coin-like formations and plumes within most of the samples. Energetically, Money Agate is primarily a crystal for manifesting prosperity, wealth and abundance, and for pursuing the Divine Pathway, or fulfilling your Divine Purpose for this lifetime.

Crystal Care
Money Agate is fairly durable, with a hardness of 6.5-7, and is suitable for carving. It can withstand most treatments, including water immersion, and is not believed to contain toxic minerals. As with most crystals, if your agate gets dusty or grimy, you can usually safely wash it with tepid water and an organic cleaner, then dry it with a soft cloth. Prolonged exposure to water may destabilise the stone's integrity. You would need to ensure that you don’t place your polished crystals against ‘rough’ or ‘raw’ crystals to protect them from scratching. As with most coloured crystals, they can fade when exposed to sustained sunlight, so, particularly in countries such as Australia, you would restrict their time outdoors or place them in an area with filtered sunlight. Selenite is a great option for clearing and recharging your crystals - especially if you have a charging plate or selenite log.
Suitable alternatives for clearing and charging your flower agate include smudging with sage, cedar, juniper or palo santo (or other cleansing and purifying herbs and aromatherapy oils), sound healing (with tuning forks, crystal or Tibetan bowls and bells, sound drumming), energy healing, or placing it on another crystal with clearing and cleansing attributes, such as a selenite charging plate. Earthing by placing it outside in a sheltered part of the garden is also a suitable method of cleansing and recharging; a good strategy could be to place it in a ceramic potted plant and expose it to moonlight or filtered sunlight for a few hours or overnight for ‘gentle cleansing’. Earthing allows the stone energy to reconnect with the natural energy of “Mother Earth’ and reinvigorate and revitalise crystals that have become ‘drained’. Other methods for cleansing, clearing, and charging your crystals can include visualisation (seeing a bright, pure white light surrounding the crystal and clearing it of any negative energies to restore it to its natural energetic state) or using healing modalities such as reiki to cleanse and recharge it.
