Ruling Numbers are the first step in creating any numerology report and the most influential storytellers of a person's life path, destiny (and even predestiny and past life). They are associated with the planets and horoscope. Day Numbers are the second most important step in birth chart calculations because they reflect the subconscious influences on your life path. Whether it is a Day Number or a Ruling Number, other influences matter, such as whether the number is a Master Number or a Power Number. While many people stop at knowing their Ruling Number, by creating things such as Birth Charts, Peaks and Pyramids, and Name Numerology, we can access far more information and raise our self-awareness by bringing the subconscious to the conscious. Numerology is an empowerment tool.
Ruling Numbers
Ruling Numbers are derived from your birth date (the sum of the day, month, and year you were born). This total reveals your destiny and life path. The numbers reveal insights into personality, thinking, and behaviours; strengths; a person's potential for achievement and success; and any barriers, challenges, and hurdles as part of their soul growth. In most instances, the number is reduced to a single digit unless the sum of the birth date is a Master Number. For example, a birthdate such as June 29, 1962 would be calculated as: 2+9+6+1+9+6+2=35, and we add the 3+5 together, and the ruling number for this birth date is 8. You can find general information about the ruling numbers below; however, numerology themes vary based on the pathway to the ruling number. For instance, a person with a ruling number 35/8 will have variations to a person who is a 44/8 or a 26/8. Ruling Number 1 ('TEN')
Traits: Confident, self-assured, and comfortable with themselves. Ability to rise above problems no matter how insurmountable they may appear. They are natural-born leaders, happy and well-liked, and thrive in a busy, exciting environment. The Ruling 10 has a certain level of fearlessness; they love freedom, like to walk the talk (integrity), and are consequently charismatic and sociable. When living positively they are quite successful. Socially they tend to prefer the company of their own sex as opposed to the other alternative ‘genders’. When living positively they can be quite successful in all their endeavours, and they are usually artistic and tactile, which makes them good judges of the quality of clothing, fabrics and materials, and good musicians.
Cautions: IF the Ruling 10 should find themselves socially isolated for any reason, they may become despondent and depressed. Additionally, to ensure good social connections, the Ruling 10 will need to develop empathy and compassion, particularly because they have a happy nature and don’t understand why other people are miserable. The sum of the birth numbers can't equal 1. A Ruling Number will always be a 10 reduced to 1. In terms of personality and expression, it varies widely and can range from people who are likable to those who are lost and floundering through life. It is a powerful combination of the ego and spiritual expression. These people have huge potential for great achievements because their ruling number contains the zero, which is significant in the birth date and can allow natural access to psychic and intuitive gifts. Ruling Number 2
Traits: The number 2 centres around judgment and, to some extent, the desire for approval from those around them, so they like to live with integrity. When living upwardly, intuition helps them make ‘right decisions’ and take ‘right actions’ because their decision-making is based on rational processing, logic, and discernment. This inner judgement is central and not based on preconceived ideas or influenced by environmental factors. Their life is about learning to make these healthy decisions—and, as with all lessons, they will have plenty of opportunity to change, adapt, and start over (a rebirth), and to learn the difference between real, imagined, true, and false, along with the capacity to focus and direct their will. Ruling Number 3
Traits: They are multi-talented and can turn any venture into a success once they are interested in the outcome, because they have such a fertile imagination. Often, they express this imagination artistically through performing, writing, music, and any activity that requires design. They can be very good at business and seem to have a lucky trait. They radiate self-confidence and vitality that can disarm those around them; they are charismatic and liked by all genders. When living upwardly, their optimism becomes a beacon of light for many, sharing hope, faith, and love and inspiring those around them. They bring joy with their witty retorts. For other Ruling 3s, depending on their birth chart and Astro, their focus may be on logical and rational pursuits, such as accountancy, research, any of the Sciences, Business Management, and so forth. They are naturally gifted and, if they choose to pursue these paths, can excel in IT programming and academia. When it comes to business investments, those around them may see them as impulsive; however, the Ruling 3 has usually carefully considered and analysed the deal and is aware of the risks before pursuing it. The Number 3 is considered a masculine number, associated with practical, material, and physical concerns. Ruling Number 4
Traits: People with a Ruling 4 are often determined to reach their goals and can become obsessive, especially with material success. On the positive side, they are often innovative, adaptable, and resilient, and may even pioneer their fields. They push boundaries, spot gaps in systems, and overcome obstacles to get what they want. Ruling 4s are known as the 'doers of the world.' They prefer solid facts over abstract ideas and usually learn best through direct experience, even if it means learning the hard way. Ruling Number 5
and teacher. These people are intuitive, and when given the freedom to express themselves, they are lively and dynamic; however, if confined, they can be sullen, moody and apathetic. Ruling Number 6
Traits: Generally, the Ruling 6 people are very loving and humane with artistic and creative attributes. With their friendships and associations, they are generous, incredibly loyal and extremely patient – tolerating much more than others would when it comes to unsavoury behaviours, and often making excuses for people. They can be very tolerant. They are humanitarians who loathe hypocrisy and injustice, and are prepared to fight for their ideals and beliefs because all their fighting is underpinned by a desire for peace (especially within their own environment and surroundings). Often, their creative expression is restricted to the home because they love to create beauty. They have deep empathy for others and a loving, kind and sympathetic nature. They can comfort those in need and, from a spiritual perspective, are considered a guardian of the Cosmos and the homemaker. They need meaningful relationships founded on love, truth and honest communication. In loving relationships, they will go to great lengths to support their partners and help them feel happy and fulfilled. The home is the most important space for Ruling 6s, as it is where they exhibit most of their creativity – and that space is a sanctuary, feeling safe and warm, and where they can put out their beautiful treasures. They have a natural ability that makes people trust and confide in them, so they excel in work that empowers and helps people. Part of this is the ability to redirect a person to focus on the positive or beautiful aspects of life to lift the mood.
The home is the most important place for people with a ruling 6. They need to create a space that feels comfortable, safe, and warm. They are exceptionally tolerant and unselfish, being loving, kind and generous. For some people, they express their humanitarian side through their love for their children and partners. They take their responsibilities seriously and are dedicated to them. For others, creative expression appears on the world stage through humanitarian activism and organisations, driven by a desire for justice, fairness, and equity.
In contrast, others find it on the world stage by drawing on talents such as singing, dancing, and writing. Most people with a ruling 6 desire peace at any price, but acquiescing can be construed as weakness and ultimately becomes self-destructive to one's happiness. From a work perspective, they tend to gravitate toward humanitarian efforts and organisations, healing and artistic professions such as designers, although they may excel at singing and acting.
Cautions: The Ruling 6 can become extremely stressed and anxious if they identify their personality with their responsibilities. In the worst-case scenarios, they may develop a sad loneliness and even mild psychosis if they feel their purpose is inhibited, which leads to a stagnation of their talents and gifts.
When they become locked into stereotypes, such as ‘just a mum’ or ‘just a wife’, they risk fanaticism and imbalance that can lead to fault-finding and dramatisation. They may even be perceived as whingers and complainers, which is contrary to their life path.
The Ruling 6 needs to guard against behaviours of ‘saving’ people; this is because it can be construed as controlling and foster dependency or codependency, and lead to them feeling responsible for the actions and choices of others, which creates emotional unrest for themselves (and the people they are trying to ‘save’). Their generosity becomes an emotional overinvestment, which can reduce their capacity to fulfil responsibilities such as parenting young children. It can also be a ‘thankless task’ that leaves them unfulfilled and feeling their generosity has been exploited.
Healthy boundaries (especially within family and partner relationships) are essential for the Ruling 6 to avoid co-dependency issues and maintain their individuality. This will also protect them against feelings of being ‘used and abused’ because they are so generous with their time and care for others, they often feel exploited. Boundaries will help to guard against feelings of bitterness and jealousy. It will also support healthy intimate and family relationships because the 6 tends to take on more responsibility than they need to, which can interfere with their family members (especially children), who may be unaware that they are fostering dependence in the children.
If the Ruling 6 falls into an extreme state of despair and negativity, because of their focus and desire for justice, they should avoid the approach of ‘an eye for an eye’ because this will create negative karma for them. Emotional detachment and emotional self-mastery are recommended. Meditation is recommended for those Ruling 6s struggling to balance. Until the 6 matures and learns emotional mastery (and reverses any selfish and emotionally manipulative behaviours of youth), they are encouraged to channel negative emotional states such as possessiveness and jealousy into creative outlets and projects that benefit others. Successful humanitarian service requires a loving detachment from responsibilities, so that they are not burdened and avoid feeling imposed upon. This requires a clear understanding of ‘what is mine’ and ‘what is theirs ’ and knowing when to hold on and when to let go.
The Number Six is a highly feminine number from an energy perspective. As an even number, it resonates with the attributes of the Moon (intuition, nurturing and maternal wisdom), allowing its actions to be dictated (at least initially!) by the call of its heart and emotions, and influenced by the traits of Venus, which is a highly feminine energy associated with love, beauty and harmony. Thankfully, it sits on the MIND plane of the birth chart, which balances some of the emotional focus, because the 6 is a ruling number of extremes. Ruling Number 7
Traits: People with a Ruling Number of Seven are travellers – physically, mentally and spiritually because the 7 acts as a bridge between the mental and spiritual. They naturally and instinctively gravitate to the comfortable and familiar (even if it is negative and not helpful for them); this includes the memories of the past and the deep-rooted emotional reactions. (They may benefit from therapies such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as part of repatterning). The Seven has a driving need to expand their personal experience of life (often subconsciously). Unfortunately, this usually happens through personal sacrifice or loss (family, money, work, or even health). Not all the sacrifices are forced upon them – quite often these are conscious and informed decisions they make to forgo some of life’s privileges to pursue the ‘greater goal’ or humanitarian vision they hold. The sacrifices are necessary to help them reshape their thinking, and to take control of their lives and their destiny – because they are the students and teachers of the world, and their methods are unique to them and their individuality. This is because the Seven do not like to learn from others or from books, but would rather learn their own way, which makes them practical, earthy teachers (and able to have a wonderful, helpful impact on the people they impart their gifts to). They are humanitarians, and you can find them being active across all walks of life. They are thinkers, philosophers, and perfectionists. Life is an ongoing quest for the truth, and spending time in introspection and reflection – part of their love of travel is because it helps to grow their understanding of people, culture and the environments the people live in. They are drawn to metaphysical and spiritual concepts and excel at activities like research. Their analytical side is reflected in their tendency to dissect events and situations and the meaning behind them as part of their desire for self-discovery and awareness.
Given their philosophical and questioning nature, they seem to have an unlimited capacity for learning and acquiring new information, and because of their vast life experiences, they are exceptional teachers. Their practical experience gives them a profound depth of character along with a deep understanding of life and people. Often this is accompanied by long bouts of 'aloneness' and the sacrifice of friendships or relationships - where they gain what they need to know and share in a way that typifies "marching to the beat of their own drum. Ruling 7’s should pursue the development of compassion and empathy as a priority, and would be wise to make a conscious choice to be both a willing teacher and student, and to be open to giving and receiving new information and advice. Furthermore, they will find that spending time in nature helps nourish their soul and connect with their inner self. The sense of completion is an internal process - and not one that comes from outside or from others. Traits: People with a Ruling 33 are often ambitious and guided by a humanitarian sense of purpose that leads social change and humanitarian projects. This includes avoiding behaviours such as ‘guilt-tripping’ or resentment towards others for not appreciating the sacrifices they have made to help others. Healthy boundaries and clear limits and priorities help reduce resentment and martyr-like behaviours.
The Ruling 33 can become judgemental and harshly critical of others if they let their perfectionist side take over and expect others to meet their high standards.
The earlier the 33 learns emotional mastery, the sooner they let go of the desire to control other people. This involves respecting differences between people, recognising that we are all on our own path, and understanding that not all paths are the same. Even if the path were the same, people value different things.
The mission in life is to help others. If you forget and use your energy for complete personal gain and self-gratification, you will feel loneliness and loss. The truth path of the 33/6 is service. When used negatively, the energy becomes martyrdom. The purpose is to give light and love to humanity through humanitarian ideals.
Ruling Number 33 is a Master Number associated with Jupiter and Venus.
