Amazonite was named after the Amazon River, although it is not mined or sourced there. It is a bluish-green microcline feldspar, with some specimens appearing more green than blue and vice versa. The most valued pieces have a vivid blue, and all amazonite shows silvery-white iridescence when held to the light. Amazonite also has white veining, which helps differentiate it from other crystals. It has been popular for thousands of years as a jewellery item or talisman. While it is not rare, the best specimens are less common. Amazonite is found globally, with most currently sourced from the US, South Africa, China, Australia and Madagascar, among many others.

Metaphysical Attributes
Metaphysically, Amazonite is known as a Stone of Peace, Hope and Harmony, as well as truth. Its primary function is to enhance honest communication between parties, which supports inner and external peace and harmony. Honesty and integrity lead to informed decision-making, and respect for each other's differences helps peace ensue. Internal peace supports emotional stability, improved decision-making, and creative problem-solving. It is believed to link the heart and throat chakras, allowing honest and sincere expression of feelings in loving ways. You can wear it as a jewellery item (talisman) or place it in your environment to purify energy in shared living spaces and ease tension and conflict. It would make an exceptional asset for therapy environments, encouraging communication and easing emotional distress.

Crystal Care
Amazonite has a hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale, so while it is fairly durable, it requires extra care when handling and using. It is suitable for carving and can withstand most treatments; however, it is on the list of Toxic Crystals because it contains lead and copper. It is not suitable for water-immersion elixirs. If your specimen becomes dusty or grimy, you can usually wash it with tepid water and an organic cleaner, then dry it with a soft cloth. Avoid placing polished crystals against rough or raw crystals to prevent scratching. Like many coloured crystals, Amazonite can fade when exposed to sustained sunlight, so in countries such as Australia, restrict its time outdoors or keep it in an area with filtered sunlight. Selenite is a good option for clearing and recharging your crystals, especially if you have a charging plate or selenite log.
Suitable alternatives for clearing and charging your Amazonite include smudging with sage, cedar, juniper or palo santo, or using other cleansing and purifying herbs and aromatherapy oils; sound healing with tuning forks, crystal or Tibetan bowls and bells, and sound drumming; energy healing; or placing it on another crystal with clearing and cleansing attributes. Earthing by placing it outside in a sheltered part of the garden is also a suitable way to cleanse and recharge it. A good strategy is to place it in a ceramic potted plant and expose it to moonlight or filtered sunlight for a few hours or overnight for gentle cleansing. Earthing allows the stone's energy to reconnect with Mother Earth's natural energy, reinvigorating and revitalising crystals that have become drained. Other methods for cleansing, clearing, and charging your crystals include visualisation, seeing a bright, pure white light surround the crystal and clear it of any negative energies to restore it to its natural energetic state, or using healing modalities such as reiki to cleanse and recharge it.
